STAGE Tailoring the surface of a microfluidic chip for advanced microparticle fabrication

Ispheres is an innovative start-up that produces functional microspheres (magnetic, fluorescent, and/or bioactive) with a precise size (> 1 µm) and very narrow size distribution (coefficient of variation > 5%) using a microfactory based on microfluidics (Figure 1). Those well-calibrated spheres are an important milestone towards the next generation of precision reagents and solutions for life-science applications.

Description de la mission

We offer an internship opportunity for a M1/M2 student at the interface of polymer chemistry and microfluidics in a dynamic and interdisciplinary research environment. The main objective is to fine-tuning of the surface properties of the microfluidic chip to improve and enlarge the scope of the microsphere fabrication process.
The future intern will work on:
 Synthesize surface-immobilizable initiators.
 Polymerize superhydrophilic polymers onto the surface of the microfluidic chip using controlled polymerization (RAFT).
 Optimize the polymerization parameters.
 Characterize the produced coatings and surfaces.
 Test the different polymer-coated microfactories to obtain functional microparticles.

Profil recherché

M1 or M2 students of organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, material science or similar disciplines.
