Île-de-France’s heritage is world-famous. The Government has handed over the responsibility for its management to the regional council, which is taking determined action to preserve this heritage. The regional council is helping to renovate or build museums to show off its cultural treasures, and to finance archaeological digs and the restoration of certain places of outstanding interest. It also finances organ renovation. The regional council also helps to restore the homes of writers, such as Jean Cocteau’s House in Milly-la-Forêt (south of Paris).
The Government transferred the heritage inventory to the regional councils in 2004. With its publications, exhibitions and documentation centre, the Inventory circulates accumulated knowledge to the general public. It supports the management and promotion of our heritage and the areas in which that heritage is situated.
